Studies have
shown that microalgae would be a commercial replacement for the highest quality
fishmeal and fish oil3,6. But due to new technique cost of production has been
considered too high. They are the best sources of protein and oil for the diets
of marine animals and the very base of the marine food chain. And, marine
micro algae have the potential to provide the peoples two things that we
desperately need: a mechanism for carbon sequestration and a source of
sustainable energy. Algae would create a carbon sink, a reservoir that absorbs
more carbon than it releases. And, unlike other plants, microalgae can double
their mass, resulting in a growth rate up to 100 times faster than terrestrial
plants.
