As a source of
renewable energy and dietary supplements, microalgae emerged as a promising
source. In the last few decades, with a wide range of commercial applications
algae have attracted a lot of attention of the researchers. However, microalgae
utilization is not economically sustainable due to the high cost of harvesting.
But many biotech firms are engaged in developing the cost-effective technique
of Harvesting Microalgae with
nonportable land and seawater. Harvesting of microalgae is an important part of
the cultivation system to produce higher biomass. The purpose of harvesting is to obtain
microalgae slurry. There are many techniques available, but coagulation and
flocculation, centrifugation and filtration were found to be most suitable for
considered applications.
